About time !

KwaZulu-Natal’s conservation authority, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, has proposed that restrictions be imposed upon the catching and keeping of wild animals – saying that animals should be able to live free from “undue human interference”. The Animal Interest Alliance (AIA) is challenging the proposed laws, saying it creates unnecessary and complicated paperwork which will frustrate the interests of scientists, vets, game farmers, zoo keepers and conservationists.

A wildlife authority's proposed restrictions on catching and keeping wild animals has ruffled the feathers of exotic bird breeders and zoo keepers. Now the Animal Interest Alliance (AIA) - a group of scientists, vets, game farmers, zoo keepers and animal and bird conservationists - is challenging KwaZulu-Natal's conservation authority, Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife, in court.

The AIA has accused Ezemvelo of attempting to frustrate breeders with complicated paperwork for permits and licences for keeping wild animals in captivity.

Ezemvelo says wild animals should be allowed to live in their enviroment free from "undue human interference". It's proposed plicy aims to minimise the number of wild animals in captivity. Permits and licences would only be granted for the transportation of game animals, rehabilitation, sanctuaries, breeding and awareness programmes and ethical research.

Isn't it good that laws are a changing? Laws regarding any animal in this country is enough to cry about. Wouldn't it be a good thing that keeping or obtaining a wild animal would pose a difficulty for those not playing by the rules or looking to exploit possible loop holes in the system for their own monetary gain?

If there is anything you could change regarding animal laws in this country, what would you change and why?
